NEW BOOK BY UKZN RESEARCH FELLOW

Graduate School of Business and Leadership’s (GSB&L) Research Fellow Dr Shamim Bodhanya’s book titled:Large Scale Systemic Change, Theories, Modelling and Practices,draws on interdisciplinary research to offer solutions to complex systematic challenges faced by humanity and society.

Graduate School of Business and Leadership’s (GSB&L) Research Fellow Dr Shamim Bodhanya’s book titled:Large Scale Systemic Change, Theories, Modelling and Practices,draws on interdisciplinary research to offer solutions to complex systematic challenges faced by humanity and society.

The book is a scholarly piece of work based on rigorous dou ble-blind academic review process by a formidable panel of international experts. It features articles by College of Law and Management Studies Dean of Teaching and Learning, Professor Kriben Pillay; GSB&L academic, Dr Cecil Gerwel Proches; Research Fellows, Dr Stanley Hardman and Dr Robert Taylor, and graduates, Mr Vishal Sharma and Dr Nikita Singh.

Part One encompasses the theory and philosophy of systems and complexity thinking as well as the implications of such an understanding for research and ethica l issues in systemic change.

Part Two provides a description of various systems methodologies, including systemic interventions,a viable systems model, capital adaptive systems methodology, and participatory organisationaldevelopment.

Part Three demonst rates the application of systems and complexity thinking to leadership, strategy and local economic development while Part Four
provides a description of various types of systems modelling, including systems diagramming and modelling, agent-based modelling and system dynamics modelling.

‘This book is primarily targeted at professionals, researchers and graduate students who wish to apply systems approaches to organisational and other large scale systems improvement,’ said Bodhanya . ‘Executives, managers and practitioners will find it useful in terms of articulating their leadership and strategic ability for organisational sustainability and competitiveness.’

Bodhanya said the book would also appeal to public sector, NGO and civil society members in terms of equipping them with new approaches for contributing to social development initiatives.

‘Organisational development practitioners will benefit from the methodologies in terms of designing and implementing organisation-wide and whole-systems change within organisations. Finally, it serves as a core text for graduate students in the areas of management, leadership, strategy and organisational development,’ said Bodhanya.
