Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership: Advancing leadership development for leaders of today, tomorrow and the future.

Have you been asking yourself where your leadership journey is taking you and what you need to get there? Then the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership is for you. The world needs authentic leaders, leaders who inspire the change they want to see in the world.

The purpose of the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership is to provide an interdisciplinary programme which strengthens and deepens the student’s knowledge and conceptualisation of leadership. It allows for an engagement at a high level of theory and intellectual independence in relation to organisational leadership.

This one-year full-time or two years part-time block release programme is aligned with the Graduate School of Business and Leadership’s mission of creating African Business Leaders through fostering and facilitating the economic development of our country and our continent.

It also supports the School’s vision of promoting excellence in management studies congruent with the requirements of business and government to enable our students to compete favourably and equitably on local, national and international job markets.

Who should apply?

The Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership is ideally suited for working professionals in both the private and public sectors occupying organisational leadership positions requiring increasing levels of leadership. The programme is also ideal for working professionals who are specialists in their fields and want to enhance their leadership competencies as they progress to managerial and leadership roles. 


What you will gain from the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership programme

  • Interdisciplinary learning: This programme strengthens and deepens the student’s knowledge and conceptualisation of leadership.
  • High level engagement: It allows for an engagement at a high level of theory and intellectual independence concerning organisational leadership.
  • Theory and practice integration: Students learn in a manner which assists them to critically engage with and integrate theory and practice, and which ultimately impacts positively on all spheres of the students’ work performance and lives.
  • Learning to lead in turbulent and complex environments: An opportunity is provided for students to obtain detailed theoretical knowledge into leading in turbulent and complex environments, and to constructively respond to various challenges, for example, around continuous change and systemic effects. Relevant and practical methodologies are emphasized, particularly for use in the African context, thus enabling students to effect positive change in their institutional context.
  • Reflective skills for work situations: Students are further equipped with reflective skills, which allows them to apply the advanced theoretical knowledge gained from the programme to their work situations. 

In a nutshell, the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership is advancing leadership development. It is an integrated leadership programme that encourages independent thinking.

A distinctive feature of the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership programme is its emphasis on process knowledge and an integrated disciplinary approach.

Programme Delivery

A flexible one year full-time or two years part-time block release format are available. Each module is delivered online over a two-week period from Monday to Friday, typically from 6pm to 8:30 pm.
