Biography

A former banker-turned-academic with vast industry experience, research, community engagement and sustainability development rigour. Prof Dubihlela is obtained his PhD in 2012 and continues to expand his research stock for emerging markets. Before joining the world of teaching and research, Prof Dubihlela worked in the banking environment for more than 18 years, 10 of which were in leadership and managerial positions, where he was overseeing credit risk, developing risk mitigation strategies, managing corporate and financial risk performance, conducting feasibility studies. He was elected on the ‘Board of Trustees’ for a large pension fund in South Africa.

He is a panellist on various research portfolios and editorial committees, as well as external examination panels for internationally reputable universities. He chairs in various postgraduate and ethics committees. He sits on the senate committee and is a recipient of 4 research recognitions awards and 3 annual research awards. He has successfully led implementation of research projects across the SADC region.

He possesses a strong collaborative network of large businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa, having managed a big team and delivered key interventions across Africa and training for organisations such as Barclays Africa, Investec Bank, Nedbank Africa, ABSA bank, Merchant Bank of Central Africa, Bank of Uganda (Uganda), Swazi Bank (Swaziland), Kenya Commercial Bank (Kenya) and Bank of Africa (Tanzania), CABS Africa, Emfuleni Municipality, City of Cape Town etc.
