Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduate, Mr Rodney Naidoo, has secured a nomination for the prestigious 2026 Telkom Forty Under 40 South Africa Awards in the Marketing and Communications category.
As the Founder and Managing Director of Blackbridge Holdings, 31-year-old Naidoo says the University’s MBA programme provided him with the strategic skills, financial acumen, and operational agility required to scale his business and make him eligible for the nomination.
“Beyond technical capability, the UKZN MBA programme instils a transformative mindset, fostering deep personal discipline, strategic adaptability, and high-level problem-solving capacity.”
His selection for the Forty Under 40 South Africa Awards highlights his pioneering work in modern Marketing Technology (MarTech). Blackbridge Holdings offers end-to-end solutions spanning high-impact influencer marketing, data-driven performance marketing, and comprehensive social media management. The agency also uses advanced Agentic AI workflows and Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) through its GEO-Lighthouse service, helping South African businesses remain visible and competitive in an evolving AI-search ecosystem.
Supervised by Dr Doug Engelbrecht, Naidoo’s MBA research was titled: ‘Evaluating the Formation, Operation, and Perceived Efficiency of South African Remote-Working Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs)’.
The study revealed that long-term efficiency and sustainability in remote SMMEs rely heavily on structured operational frameworks, purpose-driven digital communication, outcome-based performance metrics, and intentionally fostering a supportive remote work culture to navigate the isolation and operational challenges inherent to distributed teams.
“Given South Africa’s severe unemployment crisis, this research serves as a practical, self-help blueprint for entrepreneurs wanting to build lean, bootstrapped, and sustainable remote businesses without the burden of heavy physical overheads. By lowering the financial barrier to entry, remote models empower skilled individuals to generate economic opportunity and drive broader socio-economic growth,” Naidoo said.
Beyond his business ventures and academic success, the entrepreneur actively gives back through youth development, having served as a voluntary student mentor within the University of the Witwatersrand South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners Mentorship Programme which assists students to bridge academic theory with real-world execution.
He dedicates his MBA achievement to his family who, he says, gave him unwavering support during his studies.
“My family is extremely proud, encouraging, and supportive. First and foremost, this journey belongs to my partner, our two-year-old son – whom we raised throughout my MBA studies—and our second baby boy on the way. Their patience, sacrifices, and unconditional belief in me kept me grounded through the most intense moments. Reaching this milestone is a deeply meaningful, shared victory for my entire family, especially after navigating the heartbreaking losses of my father in late 2025 and my uncle in early 2026.”
